Tecnológico de Monterrey announces the

CALL FOR WORKS FOR THE FESTIVAL ECOS URBANOS

5thEdition

 

To support the creation and the spread of electroacoustic pieces, sound art & art with technological media,Tecnológico de Monterrey organizes the process of selection of worksthat will be part of the Sound & Transmedia ArtFestival “Ecos Urbanos”.

 

There will be five categories of participation:

CATEGORYI: Electroacoustic pieces from 2.0 to 12.1 channels or ambisonic (from 1st to 3rd order)

CATEGORÍA II: Audiovisual works with projection on 1 screen and sound from 2.0 to 12.1 channels or ambisonic (from 1st to 3rd order)

CATEGORÍA III: Live Coding, electronic improvisationor live performance with technological media.*

CATEGORÍA IV:Audiovisual installation, sound sculpture or interactive work.*

CATEGORÍA V: Electroacoustic works from 2.0 to 16.2, created with SuperCollider.

*CategoriesIII y IV are only for residents of Mexico City.

RULES:

  • The process of selection is open to artists from any nationality and age.

  • All participants must fill in the registration form: FORM

  • All participants must deliver a signed PDF file giving permission to the organizers to present their pieces in non-profit public eventsduring the festival. Sample Letter

  • All the selected venues have 3 floors, with a central courtyard or zone that allow anyone to listen to the array of speakers. The distribution of the speakers in all the venues will be:

  • First Floor, channels 1 to 8 + LFE 1

  • Second Floor, channels 9 to 12

  • The numbering for each speaker in the array follows this diagram:

  • For category I, send in ZIP format:

    • A folder with the audio files for each channel in WAV or AIFF format indicating in their names the number of channel they belong to, according to the previous diagram. Example: 01name.wav or 12name.wav  For ambisonic pieces (4, 9 or 16 channels), a  PDF diagram indicading the position of the sound sources in a semi-sphere to decode it in the sound system.

    • A stereo version of the piece for evaluation purposes.

    • A PDF with the artist's profile and a short description of the piece.

    • A signed PDF file giving permission to the organizers to present their pieces in non-profit public events during the festival. Sample Letter

    • To fill in the registration form: FORM

  • For category II, send in ZIP format:

    • A stereo video file for evaluation purposes.

    • A PDF with the artist's profile and a short description of the piece.

    • A signed PDF file giving permission to the organizers to present their pieces in non-profit public events during the festival. Sample Letter

  • For category III, send in ZIP format:

    • Video files (7-15 minutes long in MOV format) that show the artist or ensemble's performance, either a complete event or fragments of them.

    • Laptop orchestras, collectives, ensembles or groups of artists are accepted.

    • A PDF with the artist or group's profile and a short description of the work or project.

    • A signed PDF file giving permission to the organizers to present their pieces in non-profit public events during the festival, groups must appoint a representative to sign. Sample Letter

    • To fill in the registration form: FORM

  • For category IV, send in ZIP format:

    • Video files that show the sculpture, installation or interactive work in action.

    • A PDF with the artist or group's profile and a short description of the work or project.

    • A technical file specifying the dimensions of the project, the necessary time to set it up and technical requirements. NOTE: The festival will only provide electric extensions and connections and a space to show the project.

    • A signed PDF file giving permission to the organizers to present their pieces in non-profit public eventsduring the festival, groups must appoint a representative to sign. Sample Letter

    • To fill in the registration form: FORM

  • For category V, send in ZIP format:

    • Necessary files to execute the piece from the SuperCollider platform.

    • A stereo version of the piece for evaluation purposes.

    • Only if necessary, a PDF file with instructions in case external libraries need to be installed or the code needs to be run in a specific order.

    • A signed PDF file giving permission to the organizers to present their pieces in non-profit public events during the festival, groups must appoint a representative to sign. Sample Letter

  • All applications must be sent via www.wetransfer.com(or equivalent web file transfer service) in 1 single ZIP file to the email festivalecosurbanos@gmail.com

  • IMPORTANT: The name of the ZIP file should be identical to submitted piece.

  • The deadline for submissions is Sunday October 20th, 2019.

  • The list of selected works will be announced no later than October 23rd, 2019. Composers and sound artists whose works are selected will be notified about the date when they will be played or shown at the festival.

  • Any questions regarding these regulations and their interpretation shall be clarified by the organizers of the festival from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
